I wonder where does 'for' goes under SVOCA...
Hi Su,
ReplyDeleteThanks for starting us off!
There is something wrong with trying to analyse "Counter for returning trays" in terms of "SVOCA". Can you figure it out?
Or someone else who feels they know, do feel free to jump in.
R Tang.
Dr Tang,
ReplyDeleteIs it because of the prepositional post modifier phrase ' for returning trays' ?
Is 'returning' non- finite here??
:D
Su
Hi. You're right when you say that "for returning trays" is a prepositional phrase postmodifier. So what kind of unit does that make "counter for returning trays"? (When do we talk about PP postmodifiers? Postmodifier of WHAT?)
ReplyDeleteThat's the first question. The next question then is: What kinds of units do we do SVOCA analysis on?
Think about it. Will check back!
So what's the answer? I really need to know..
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion you can't use svoca here, it's not a sentence, they just gave that counter the name; 'Tray Return Counter'
